DE Razor Before and After II: Razor Rescue

August 17th, 2009 · 3 Comments · Razors

Here we have a Gillette Super Speed Red Tip from 1957. This poor guy was part of a pair that were not getting any love on the ‘Bay. I took a chance on it, because I love Red Tips and I didn’t see any, oh, ‘structural damage’ as they’d say in Real Estate.

This one just suffered from neglect and poor presentation.

A Neglected Red Tip

A Neglected Red Tip.

I sniped rescued the Red Tip and its long tooth NEW partner. A little scrub, a little TLC, and voila:

Red Tip Shined Up.

Red Tip After TLC.

I already have a Red Tip that I’m quite fond of, and don’t really need another. I just couldn’t stand to imagine this one going in the “Meh, didn’t sell, fuck it” trash bin. Which is what I believe would have happened.

So, search Ebay for ‘Red Tip’, look for the ‘after’ picture, and bid away. It’s yours. Just please, give it a good home. Take it out to play once in a while. You’ll be glad you did.

SO I’m into details. Hehe. What was used for the clean up process on this nice piece?

It got the usual dish liquid/oxyclean soak, plus the Scrubbing Bubbles. Since the nickel plate was in good shape, a little Silvo polish, then Barbicide. Polish can wreck a gold plated razor.

This razor was so cruddy whisker stubble came out when I started on it. Bleah.

    Follow up:

This razor was absolutely stolen for $6.50 plus shipping. Less than half what it was worth. Hope the lucky winner was a reader here.
