Beware the Geo F Trumper shaving brush

May 30th, 2011 · Brushes

Noodling around Badger and Blade recently I noticed a poster’s signature exhorting a boycott of Geo F. Trumper products.

Now, Trumper is one of the old-line British shaving gear companies. Their soaps and creams are considered top of the heap.

I found my way to the thread outlining the current anger at the venerable company.

It would seem the Trumper company has abandoned the Simpson-made shave brushes it has sold for nearly a century, to be replaced by cheap knock-offs of the old Simpson styles.

Beware more than anything something you read on the Internet, I know. However, a couple things lead credence to this claim. One, members of the Simpson family post on B&B and express their disappointment in the thread. Two, a London-based poster went into the Trumper shop and asked the manufacturer of the new brushes. The response from the clerk was rude and hostile; the answer being that Trumper doesn’t provide that information. Odd, said the customer, they used to be proud to point out their house-branded brushes were made by Simpson. No longer.

So at least Geo F. Trumper isn’t lying about where their new brushes are coming from. They just keep selling very close copies of the old Chubbys, calling them now C.B. line or some such. Without lowering their asking price, mind.

Business is business. Let GFT sell whatever make of product they want, it’s a free market. But it’s up to consumers to be aware when they’re putting hard-earned money on the barrel.

It would seem you can’t count on getting a Simpson brush with the Trumper name on it anymore. Be advised.

….and to the Trumper company, if I’m wrong, and have blindly repeated Internet gossip without due diligence, I will be more than happy to publish a correction. Send along proof that your new line of brushes comes from Simpson, or the source of these clearly non-Simpson brushes.

(whoring alert!) Or provide a free sample brush to Wet Shaver’s Blog. It will be tested and the results published here fairly and without bias. (end whoring)

What are Old Fashioned Shaving Bunnies?

April 28th, 2011 · Uncategorized

Recently Dairy Queen has been airing a commercial featuring “old-fashioned shaving bunnies”.

Traffic here at Wet Shavers Blog indicates there are a lot of people searching the Interwebs to find out exactly what these critters are.

I’m sorry to have to report that Old Fashioned Shaving Bunnies are just a construct from the fertile imagination of some Mad Men at the agency DQ hired to handle their advertising.

Bunnies can’t shave anyone. They don’t have opposable thumbs; so they can’t hold a razor. Sorry to break that to you.

But these bunnies are on to something. OLD FASHIONED SHAVING is definitely something you should look into, whether you’re male or female.

It’s fun to do, makes your skin feel and look terrific.

Check out some of the most popular entries here (on the right side of the page). You might just have discovered a life-changing secret.
